Toyo Ito

Born in 1941 and started Toyo Ito & Associated Architects in 1971. His main works include: White U (1976), Silver Hut (1984), Tower of Winds (1986), Shimosuwa Municipal Museum (1993), Dome in Odatel (1997) and Sendai Mediatheque (2001). Recently not only at domestic projects, he is working at overseas projects particularly in Europe. He has made Bruges Pavilion (2002) and Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2002 in London (2002) and now working on several projects including Mahler 4 Block 5 in Amsterdam, Hospital Cognacq-Jay in Paris and Relaxation Park in Torrevieja. In January 2003 he won the competition for the extension at Fair of Barcelona Fair: Monjuic - 2. At the Venice Biennale in 2002 he was awarded with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of his distinguished contribution to contemporary architecture.
